My name is Jackie Saunders and I’m both the Development Director for the Krishnamurti Foundation, which includes Oak Grove School, and also a former parent.  So I have seen a lot of both the need the school has to address the typical funding gap of 20%, and also the wonderful place it is for a life of curiosity, learning and growing.

Our family came to Oak Grove at 8th grade.  My husband Robert and I became parents late in life, and only had one son, Devin.  How he survived two adoring parents is a bit of a mystery.  Now that he has graduated and is out in the world, I’ve had a chance to reflect back on our family journey.  In retrospect, it feels right up there with “March of the Penguins” in terms of the “preciousness” we felt about our child.  Fortunately, Oak Grove not only gave us financial help, but gave us a way to let go, to give Devin everything he could get from having a large family – companionship, adventure, learning, great warmth, and the value of hard work, of sharing the load. 

Oak Grove gave me a way to feel like the best mother in the world.  So today, it’s my privilege, whether you are a former parent, a current family, or simply a special friend, to ask you to make a financial investment in the ongoing revolutionary approach to education that Oak Grove offers, and continues to deepen.

This is not just an investment in the school, but in a larger sense, through our young graduates, it’s an investment in the possibility of transforming our world.  What we’re asking you for today is what we need most – financial support for our day-to-day operations, which means support for the extraordinary teachers and students we have here.
